For the classic Sentijn and the mordern Sentijn 37 IQ

From the boards of the renowned designer Dick Koopmans Jr., the Sentijn was a highly innovative yacht in its day. The first series was designed in 1995, 1996, 1997 and built at various yards, with many yachts being strengthened and refitted later. We actually sail the Sentijn 37 Viva la Vida ourselves often, taking her on journeys to the Channel Islands, London, Saint Malo and the German Wadden region. We have sold a good number of pre-owned Sentijn yachts, and there is an app group for owners for which we organised reunions in Amsterdam and Enkhuizen.

Viva la Vida officially became a classic yacht in 2020 and was admitted to the Dutch classic sailyacht association (VKSJ) – a mark of recognition for the designer and broker/owner alike.

Sales representative Sentijn

We are also sales representatives for the modern Sentijn. Below we list some of the assets of this beautiful semi-custom yacht but first here are the differences with the classic Sentijn:

  • Larger engine and new location
  • Different coupling point for the stays
  • No bridge deck
  • Changes to the sail plan of the main sail
  • Vinylester hull and keel frame

High-end quality

“The Sentijn 37IQ by designer Dick Koopmans Jr. is a well-thought-out sailyacht of high-end quality with an exceptional performance. The yacht combines good looks and comfort with an interior that one would expect to find on a 40-footer. Built with sandwich vinylester using vacuum injection, it is fully in accordance with Lloyds’ standards. All in all, this is a unique sailing yacht from the Netherlands which I am very looking forward to selling.”

About the design

An extremely strong construction in accordance with Lloyds’ standards formed the starting point for the Sentijn 37IQ. The hull is composed of vinylester, which is stronger than polyester, more scratch-proof and – equally important – not susceptible to osmosis.

The construction uses vacuum injection, a Dutch technology which results in a light yet super-strong hull by allowing the resin to be carefully administered. The hull features an Airex foam core that provides stiffness, strength and insulation.

The keel is made of lead, and its L-shape with a deep centre of gravity ensures a favourable starting stability and righting capacity. The keel hangs from a laminated galvanised steel keel frame that also bears the mast.

Small crew

The Sentijn 37IQ can be sailed by a small crew while the spacious cockpit accommodates five to seven people. There is no bridge deck so the interior is easy to access. The yacht sails comfortably, fast and very high on upwind courses. The steering is light, and she is easy to manoeuvre under sail and on the engine. All trimming functions can be operated from the cockpit.

The connection of the stays have been placed as far out as possible to ensure a better pressure distribution on the hull and, combined with the connection to the keel frame, a very strong whole. The mast is keel-stepped and features a 9/10 Dyform stay.

Above deck, the spacious cockpit is very comfortable and the wide gangways are obstacle-free. An electric anchor winch and the drum of the furling jib, assembled below deck, can be found in the forepeak. The bow features a solid anchor mounting with a Bruce anchor and the option for a carbon bowsprit to accommodate a gennaker.

Light interior

The interior is light and spacious. Below deck, the Sentijn 37IQ has lots of storage space, an impressive navigation station and a large saloon. The functional galley island in the centre of the yacht provides plenty of cooking space as well. A wet cell enables showering on board.

The large diesel and water tanks ensure a significant range. The engine is easily accessible and the battery capacity impressive, with a lithium battery an option. The four-cylinder Volvo Penta 40 hp engine powers a saildrive with a three-blade folding propeller.

Sentijn: a complete ship by default

The philosophy of the builders is that each Sentijn yacht should be as comprehensive as possible in the basic version. This means that the Sentijn 37IQ comes standard with a teak bumper, teak finish in the cockpit, a steering wheel, hot and cold water, a refrigerator, marine radio, wind/log/depth meter, antifouling, LED lighting for the interior, LED navigational lights, three-hub cooker with oven, oversized winches and fittings, and much more besides.

Prefer a different layout, extra storage space, other woods or colours, a wet locker, wind vane steering, cutter rigging, permanent spray hood, washing machine or watermaker? Every Sentijn is built in accordance with the wishes of its owner.

The Sentijn 37IQ is a strong and attractive yacht which is very comfortable to sail. Contact us for more information or book a sea trial.
